SERVICES

Fees vary and will depend on the individual project and type of service requested. We will discuss prices with you and come up with a written agreement signed by both parties, so that there are no surprises at the end.

An initial reading and evaluation of the material is suggested to determine which services best fit your manuscript and writing needs.

FICTION –

Levin Editorial can help fiction writers through all stages of the novel-writing process. The three basic services are:

Evaluation of Manuscript: categorizing your book; assessing its marketability and suggesting ways to improve it; an overview of your strengths and weaknesses as a writer.

Developmental Editing: a thorough critique of the entire manuscript, analyzing plot, structure, characterization, point of view and theme, among other elements.

Line Editing: a line by line edit of your work that includes not only punctuation, grammar and typos, but that looks for inconsistencies, examines metaphors and similes, and suggests ways of improving your own style and giving deeper expression to your voice.

Proofreading: reading the manuscript for spelling and typographical errors as well as basic sentence structure and grammar.

We work with almost every genre of fiction, including books for young readers.

MEMOIR –

The memoir genre has expanded widely in the last decade, replacing, some say, the autobiographical first novel. But even if the events depicted are true, there must be an arc to the story, characters the reader care about, and some fresh insight brought to bear on family, society or human nature – all told in a compelling voice. We can help you shape that arc, create those characters, bring out those insights and find your voice.

NONFICTION –

Whether you want just sample chapters or a full manuscript, Levin Editorial can help you create a nonfiction book that sells! If you have a good idea, a clever concept, or want to boost your business or enhance your professional exposure, we can help you edit and refine your book and work to get it published or produced. Being an author opens many doors both professionally and creatively. The nonfiction book market is thriving and new and innovative ideas are always welcome by publishers.

BOOK PROPOSALS –

Many non-fiction books are sold based on a proposal and sample chapters. We can help you, whether you just have an idea, already have a proposal written that needs fine-tuning, or are at any stage in between.

PRESS PACKETS –

A press packet is the essential first step to marketing yourself. We will help you pull together everything you need to make a dynamic presentation to agents, publishers, and/or the media. Our professional designers will assist you to create the right concept, logo, and packaging to represent your title as well. Editing and copy writing is available under this option.

QUERY LETTERS –

Will the agent even look at your submission? A sharp query can make the difference. Many fine writers have trouble identifying the most marketable aspects of their own work. We can help you not just with the basic format of queries, but take you to the next level, resulting in a vibrant, eye-catching query that makes your manuscript irresistible to your audience.

SELF-PUBLISHING –

With self-publishing now affordable to many, increasingly authors are choosing this option. If you have the right book, it can be more profitable than going with a big press; if you don’t, it can be a mistake. We will advise you as to whether self-publishing is the best choice for your manuscript; if so, we can guide you through the process, make you aware of the traps that await the self-published author, and help you make the most of the opportunities that self-publishing creates for you. From choosing your cover, to editing your book, to writing jacket copy, we will help your book look polished and professional.

WEBSITE CONSTRUCTION AND HOSTING –

Today every author, published or not-yet-published, needs a website. We can provide you with the design of your choice and all levels of service. Publishers are encouraged by and want to see authors who have a strong presence on the Web.

MARKETING CONSULTATIONS –

We are available to give you an overview of the publishing world, from submitting to agents, to how a book is sold, to the many forms that book can take (hard cover, paperback, digital formats) to how to promote your work once it’s published. We can also strategize with you on how best to position and market your particular book.
